Dr. J.D. Walker
I was born in 1939 in a little coal mining town in Harlan County, Kentucky.
My father was a coal miner. My parents were good, godly people. I was brought up in the Methodist Church. After my mother was filled with the Holy Ghost, she found a Pentecostal Church, while I remained Methodist.
When I was sixteen I joined the Air Force. After boot camp I was sent to Little Rock, Arkansas. I lived it up there, drinking, smoking, doing what I thought was normal. But gradually I found a Pentecostal Church, even before I was born again. I visited a Pentecostal Church several times and found that Pentecost is not a religion; it is an experience.
Soon after I was discharged from the military, I went to New Jersey to attend a friend’s wedding. During this time, before my conversion, I was in three total car wrecks and came close to death in an airplane when its engine died. I was confused, afraid and just plain scared of dying!
In 1962 my mother became ill and I had to go to Tennessee. That was when I began to pray for three days continuously and finally accepted the Lord. I was born again in March, 1962.
I joined a true church in Dover, New Jersey, under a very good man of God, who taught me the Bible way of living. Along with my wife, Arlene, I attended Faith School of Theology in Maine for one year, and Free Gospel Bible Institute, Export Pa. for 2 years, where I graduated in 1968. The Lord blessed us with one daughter, Lora, and two beautiful granddaughters.
I began assisting at The Mahwah Full Gospel Church, Mahwah, New Jersey in 1965, and became the full time pastor in 1974. My Radio Broadcast, “Highway to Heaven” was on the air in the greater New York City area for 22 years, during that time we held regular crusades in the New York area. Currently, our telecast is seen on local cable TV.
I made two mission trips to Haiti, and two trips to Kenya, Africa. We are currently supporting mission works in Haiti, Africa, Philippines, Taiwan, Russia, U.S.A., and supporting Jews who are returning to Israel.
